05-10-2017 - Classmate Hugh Sillito passed away April 15, 2017

Obituary for Hugh Sillito

Hugh Sillito
Hugh Sillito, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed quietly out of this life late Saturday evening, April 15, 2017, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. He died surrounded by his wife of 43 years, Alma (Aguirre) Sillito; his six children: Hugh, Jeff, Mario, and Mathew Sillito, Sheli Sillito-Walker, and Liz Hutchings; daughter-in-law Eiko (Suzuki) Sillito; and grandchildren.

He was born August 28, 1949 in Consort, Alberta, Canada to Lois and Melvin Sillito, the ninth of fourteen children. He moved to Utah as a teen, where he attended Olympus High School, and later received his BA from BYU, where he met the love of his life, Alma. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Before his illness, Hugh worked as a printer for BYU. He took pride in his well-cared-for garden and his dogs. He will be remembered for his dry Canadian wit, even in pain, a love of music and fantasy literature, and his ability to cook for an army. He leaves his family an inheritance of hard work, sacrifice, and love.

His family wishes to express gratitude to all those who showed love for and spent time with Hugh in the last years of his life, as he loved and served so many of us in years of good health. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, at the LDS Lakeview stake center, 1800 S 400 W, Orem UT, at 11:00 AM, preceded by a viewing at 10:00 AM.
