Stephen Wilby Durham 1949~2014
Cottonwood Heights, UT-Stephen Wilby Durham died on October 4th finally losing his hard fought 16 month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 19, 1949 to Wilby M. and Betty H. Durham of Salt Lake City, Utah. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving wife of 44 years, Valli G. Durham, his two sons and other family members. Steve grew up in the Cottonwood Holladay area and graduated from Olympus High School in 1967 and the University of Utah in 1973. After graduating from the U of U in 1973 he followed a career path in highway estimating and construction management until he retired in 2004.
Some of the greatest memories are the times he spent skiing in the Wasatch Mountains with his friends and family. Especially, the time chasing his two sons down the slopes of Solitude Ski Resort while teaching them to ski.
But his most treasured moments were spending time at our family cabin on Bear Lake where he was able to watch his family grow up over several years. This is where he got the chance to watch his grandchildren grow and learn an appreciation for Bear Lake and the Bear Lake Valley.
He is survived by his wife Valli, sons, Nathan, (wife Erika) and granddaughter Lilli. Son Eric (wife Katrina) and grandsons Lucas and Miles. Siblings Mary Ellen Durham (husband Al Bailey), John Durham (wife Shirley), Tim Durham (wife Val) and several nieces and nephews.
He will truly be missed. We have all lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
